Scout ("the App") is developed by Ramil Salmanov. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use Scout.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Information We Collect
To provide a personalized experience, Scout collects the following information:
- Health goal preferences — your skin-care and dietary goals
- Acne type — hormonal, cystic, surface, body, or rosacea
- Age
- Biological sex
- Scan history — products you have scanned
- Diet preferences — dietary restrictions or preferences you set
- Allergies — food allergies you disclose
How We Use Your Information
Your data is used to:
- Personalize acne-risk scores and ingredient analysis to your profile
- Maintain your scan history so you can revisit past results
- Improve the accuracy of our recommendations over time
Third-Party Services
Scout integrates with the following third-party services:
- OpenAI API — used to analyze ingredient lists and provide acne-risk assessments. Ingredient data may be sent to OpenAI's servers for processing.
- Supabase — used for user authentication and cloud data storage.
- RevenueCat — used to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases.
- Apple Sign-In & Google Sign-In — used for secure account authentication.
Device Permissions
- Camera — used for barcode scanning and photo capture of ingredient labels. Camera access is only activated when you initiate a scan.
Data Storage
Your data is stored in two places:
- Locally on your device — for offline access and performance
- Supabase cloud database — for sync across devices and backup
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Data is only shared with the third-party services listed above, solely for the purpose of operating the App.
Analytics and Session Recordings
Scout uses PostHog to collect anonymized analytics about how users navigate the app so we can improve the experience. We collect interaction events (screens viewed, buttons tapped, onboarding answers, scan and subscription activity) and anonymized session recordings of in-app usage.
All text inputs (name, email, password), all images, and the scan camera preview are automatically masked and never captured. We do not record skin photos, the products users scan, or any content from the device's camera or photo library. After sign in, analytics events are associated with the user's account so we can measure conversion and retention.
Recordings are retained for up to 30 days. Data is processed by PostHog (posthog.com) on our behalf. To request deletion of analytics data, users can contact us at salmanovmediallc@gmail.com.
Your Rights
You can:
- Delete your account and all associated data directly from within the App at any time.
- Contact us to request a copy of your data or ask questions about your information.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Scout is rated 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
